Newsletter – Autumn 2020

Autumn term:

Well what a year it has turned out to be and is sadly going to have repercussions for some time to come!!

We return to some sort of normality from September by going back to normal days & hours, with lots of risk assessments and new guidelines.

We will keep you updated with everything via email as we did from June to July!!  So please watch out for emails and feel free to contact me at anytime.

We will begin the term settling the children into Pre-school and the new ‘keeping ourselves safe’ routines!

We will then move onto ‘Autumn’ as our main theme. We’ll begin our ‘Letter of the Week with ‘Aa’ and our first Number’ will be ‘1’.

Home Activities:

To encourage the learning that your child will get from the above activities, there are things that you can do together at home:

* Explore the countryside to collect different nature items relating to autumn and get your child to talk about and describe what they have found.

* Read autumnal stories relating to our autumn theme.

* Talk to your child about the world around them and have them describe what they can see, touch and smell.

You could read together; maybe even take a trip to the local library to find some of these books:

* ‘Squirrels Autumn Search’ by  Anita Loughrey

* ’We’re going on a Leaf Hunt’ by Steve Metzger

* ’It was a cold dark night’ by Tim Hopgood

In accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, we aim to allow the children to have as much access to the outdoor environment as possible, as long as it is safe to do so.

The indoor environment will be used whenever we deem it unfit to go outside.

Please label all your child’s clothing & footwear.

We recommend Pre-school Sweatshirts and T-shirts as it takes away the worry of what to dress them in and helps them to feel part of the group.

Sweatshirts = £8:00 / T-shirts = £5:00.

Also Book-bags can be purchased for £3:50.

However at this moment please do not bring in any Book-bags!

Due to Covid-19, we are also having problems getting hold of  new uniform items, but regardless of what clothes your child does wear to Pre-school, they will need to be washed after every session.

Collecting Children:

To ensure social distancing, you will have been allocated a drop off and collection time for your child.  Any problem collecting your child, please inform us immediately by phone or text on our Pre-school Number: 07855 279 934.  If we do not receive notice of delayed collection, we reserve the right to charge a late collection fee in-line with other childcare facilities in the area.

Only one parent/carer at a time, who are symptom free, should collect your child.  Any change of address or phone numbers please let us know by email or phone so we can ensure emergency contact details are kept up-to-date.

COVID-19 Symptoms:

Do not send your child to Pre-school if they have Covid-19 symptoms, or have tested positive in the last 7 days, or if another household member develops Covid-19 symptoms.  In this case, parents/carers should call Pre-school to inform us and then follow the ‘stay at home guidance’.

If your child has sickness or diarrhoea, they should not attend Pre-school for 48 hours after the symptoms have gone, as they may still be infectious.

Also, if your child has a very heavy cold and/or cough please keep them off Pre-school so infection is not spread to others.  Please ring or text us on Pre-school’s number 07855 279 934 by 9:15am if your child is unable to attend for any reason!

‘Wow’ Certificates:

We will be continuing with ‘Wow’ Certificates as an effective way of celebrating and highlighting children’s successes and achievements.!  They will be given to children who achieve something special in their development (i.e. learning to pedal a trike)  or  attitude to learning (i.e. perseverance with a tricky activity) or exceptionally good behaviour (i.e. consistently participating in circle time).

Parents/carers should tell their child’s keyperson when they want to share something done at home that is worthy of celebrating (i.e. learning to swim, riding a bike) – a ‘Wow’ certificate for this will then be produced.  All certificates will be shown at ‘circle time’, displayed in Pre-school, then be available for parents/carers to take home at a later date.

Bertie Bear:

Sadly, Bertie Bear’s adventures will continue to be on hold for the time being!! A letter will be sent out when we feel it will be safe for his ‘stay-over’s’ to continue.

Children’s Toys:

During this current Covid-19 environment, we are not allowing the children to bring any toys/objects into Pre-school.
